Trauma Therapy
Something traumatic has happened. Now you’re left wondering what to do. Perhaps, this was a singular bad event, an accident, or a traumatic death. Or maybe, it was a complex medical illness or multiple events. This event could have happened recently, months ago, years ago, or something from your childhood that’s coming back to haunt you in the present. Regardless of when it happened, it’s causing you immense pain and suffering.
Trauma affects everything
Maybe you feel frozen, not sure what to do, but you’re not able to move forward either. Perhaps, you don’t know where to get help or who you can trust. Let’s face it, trauma isn’t something you can just get over.
Trauma can take on many forms. It doesn’t look the same on everyone. Trauma can begin through sexual assault, physical abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, accidents, or natural disasters. My approach to Trauma Therapy
No two people experience trauma in the same way. Therefore, my approach to trauma therapy is not a one size fits all. I take my role as a trauma therapist in Phoenix, AZ very seriously. I understand that when you come to me for help coping with the unimaginable things you or your child experienced, you are doing so at a time when you are most vulnerable. Your sense of safety and trust has been broken. Therefore, the first thing I want to do is get to know you and build a relationship built on trust, mutual respect, and safety. We will take the therapy process as slowly as you wish until you or your child are ready to truly begin the hard work of healing from trauma.
As I get to know you, I will get a sense not only of what happened but also what treatment approach will help you recover. I use the latest therapeutic techniques in neuroscience and psychotherapy to help my clients cope and heal from trauma.
EMDR Therapy:
One of the most novel, well-researched, and highly effective treatments for PTSD treatment and trauma therapy is Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing or EMDR. EMDR is appropriate to treat trauma in young children, adolescents, teens, and adults quickly and effectively. EMDR uses eye movements, auditory stimulation, and tappers to help you or your child access your stuck point. Unlocking the stuck points allows you to address the trauma in a safe and controlled environment with my help.
Brainspotting:
Brainspotting is similar to EMDR in that it helps you access the things that are causing you to feel stuck and prevent you from healing from the trauma you experienced. However, Brainspotting uses your field of vision and the places you look when you’re triggered to help you unlock your stuck point and allow you an opportunity to process the trauma you experienced.
Somatic Experiencing:
During Somatic Experiencing, I will first assess where you are “stuck” in the fight, flight, or freeze responses. I will gently guide you through small bits of traumatic material and ask you to notice difficult body sensations and unprocessed emotions. This will allow you to complete self-protective motor responses and release what’s held in the body to process trauma at the root.
